Service Introduction

Since August 2003, the Caritas Enlightenment Project (http://csa.caritas.org.hk) has been sponsored by The Community Chest of Hong Kong (The Chest) to provide counselling services for adult survivors of child sexual abuse. As of July 2008, The Chest's funding expanded to provide services for adults who have experienced other childhood trauma (e.g. physical and psychological abuse).

Childhood trauma can have profound and long-lasting impacts on adult survivors. Professional counselling could facilitate the survivors to understand the harm they have experienced, to deal with the distress caused by their childhood trauma, and to adapt to challenges in their current life.

We named the project "Enlightenment" as an encouragement to our service users. "Enlightenment" means that the night is over, the sky begins to clear up, and the first rays of the morning sun are shining brightly in our hearts. As long as we have hope, we will have a better tomorrow.
