The School Social Work Services provide professional services for 39 secondary schools in Hong Kong. We collaborate closely with families, schools and other social organizations to enhance student’s competence in facing different personal, interpersonal, family and academic issues. In such, we help promote students’ wellbeing and holistic growth in order to foster their holistic healthy development.
Our Works
We provide individual counselling and consultation services according to students' particular situations. In addition, we arrange diversified groups (educational, developmental, and therapeutic nature) and experiential activities for students and parents, with reference to students' developmental needs and coordination of community resources.
- Positive Education: With the application of positive psychology, we assist students in building themselves up by developing character strengths and setting achievable goals in school and career life. We also encourage parents to recognize the strengths of each other, enhancing the effective functioning of families.
- Sex Education: By positioning "sex education" as values cultivation in addition to knowledge transfer, we assist students in learning the connections between "sex", "love", "life", "body" and "opposite gender relationship", and building the values of "respect" and "chastity" as the foundation when getting along with others.
- Personal Growth: By arranging activities that facilitate peer interactions and mutual growth, we assist students in understanding themselves and enhancing their communication and problem-solving skills through mutual learning.
-
Career Development: By arranging mentorship and internship programs, we cultivate students' proper working attitudes and skills, and widen their horizons in workplaces and careers. We also provide resources such as scholarships and financial aid, supporting students without being affected by disadvantages.
-
Service Learning: We cultivate students' proper volunteering attitudes and skills, and arrange for students to participate or co-work on organizing different volunteer services. When students serve the people in need, we encourage them to learn and become both caring and creative service leaders and planners.
-
Mental Well-being: By applying various theories (e.g., character strengths, expressive arts, animal-assisted therapy, aromatherapy), we raise students' awareness of mental well-being, and assist them in relieving stresses in family, school and daily life, in order to develop positive mindset and resilience in long-term.
-
Family Functioning Improvement: By utilizing I-FAST (Integrative Family and Systems Treatment), we assist in handling complex issues in students' families, and improve the motivation of family members to resolve conflicts together. We also strive to protect students from abuse in accordance with laws and regulations.
-
Early Identification of Crisis: Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) has been arranged for school social workers. We identify students' potential suicidal risks early and develop safety plans. If a crisis unfortunately occurs, we provide immediate psychological support to students to reduce the impact.
